Evaluation of My Radio Jingles

For the past week we were set the task to produce and finish three radio jingles for our radio station of our choice. My radio station “SNC –RAVE” is to be aimed at young adults and the music that would be played would be Dance, DnB, House and Dubstep based.

Firstly I needed to understand how to use the Macs and the programme that we would be working on for the next 3 days. I had a quick run in with the Macs in high school but that was only on final cut for my film work, so SoundBooth was a totally new experience to me and at first I was completely lost. But with the morning with Ili I quickly felt comfortable with it all. So that night I had to get an idea of music that I would play, I made a list of artists and when I got home I raided my ITunes for several tracks. The first jingle I set to work on was my radio promo. This was full of music and sound effects but I was lacking on the speech side and the middle of this jingle had no speech what so ever. If I was to re-do this I would definitely make sure to insert more speech to promote my radio show “the evening rave”. How ever where there was speech the levels were perfect and the same for the levels of the music and sound effects. Also the promo had to be a maximum of one minute in length but mine seemed to go on for the best part of one minute twenty. This would be because of the excessive use of songs that I used also because of the length of each section. However everyone seemed to like the very misleading start as it’s a piece of classical music then changes into some heavy DnB.

The second jingle I set to work on was my news jingle. In comparison to the promotional jingle, this one consisted in a lot more speech and pretty much lasted the duration of the jingle. Furthermore I had a “Lloyds TSB” remix so therefore made up a story to match to it.

My final jingle I produced was my station identity. This consisted of one solid block of music with my voice constantly repeating the name of my station “SNC-RAVE”, each repetition had different sound effects some similar to the ones off Radio 1. Also I had cut some speech of current musicians out of some interviews on the internet. I had Tinchy Stryder saying his name and Dizzee Rascal saying “Dizzee Rascal for Prime Minister”. However the Dizzee Rascal one cuts off quickly at the end as he is quite a fast talker. This would need to be faded to fully understand it.

I am extremely pleased of what I produced and the comments from staff were very positive which did surprise me very much.

My Pinhole Camera Project

Before we set to work on making our pinhole cameras we had to learn all about what we are dealing with and how it all works. The first thing we looked at was photography in general, we learnt that photography is not only a process but it is also an activity and an art of creating still images or moving pictures by recording radiation on a sensitive medium, such as a photographic film. This is similar to what we used inside our handmade pinhole cameras.

After this we set to work on producing a successfully working pinhole camera. We each had to bring in a light tight box mine was a large shoe box (33cm by 22cm). Firstly we had to paint the entire inside black this is so the light will not by bouncing around on the inside and causing the final image to not come out properly. What I then went on to do was to make 2 triangles which were to fit nicely into the corners of my box this was to hopefully cause the image to curve slightly on the sides. Once they were fitted I set to work on making the pinholes, as my shoe box was so big I decided to put three holes in the front to get a odd looking image which I managed to produce. Then I was done and all I needed to do was load up the photography paper in the dark room and get to a great location.

As the box was long this meant that my exposure time had to be 40 minutes inside and 4 minutes outside. When the pictures were taken we took them to the black room and went under the smelly procedure of developing them. I only really got one successful one from my camera so I used another one to get a couple good ones.
